Blood and Err
Blood and Err, a parody of the German phrase "blut und ehre" follows the lives of different characters throughout the European theater of WWII; everything from axis to allies, resistance to civilian life. The focus of the project is to challenge the idea of 'good and bad' being a matter of nationality, rather, the individual choices each person makes in any given situation. This project is intended to be an anthology of smaller graphic novels that focus on each character in the story, some of which intersect others on the timeline. Currently a work in progress, the characters and stories have been the product of a lifelong passion for the genre. As I've matured in my handling of the topic and understanding of the culture and history of each character, their stories have evolved. My hope is to produce something that evokes emotion, thought, and new perspectives on how we perceive one another in this ever contentious world…. and also ship my dumb OCs along the way.
Hey I'm Zeke
My interest in Holocaust and WWII history began in elementary school after reading Night, by Eli Wiesel. What began as a minor fascination turned into a life long passion that has taken me all over the world, created lifelong friendships, and landed me in the hotseat for drawing Nazis 😅Growing up in Virginia as a mixed race filipino-American, I've always struggled with belonging. Even in my childhood I was confronted with racism at my school, my church, and everywhere I went. I learned to cope through art, humor, and trying to understand how every day people could buy into such inhumane beliefs. The art surrounding my special interest has been a form of catharsis expressed through the characters' stories, finding humor in dark places, and drawings both serious and irreverent. I have not always expressed my passions in wise or respectful ways, especially as I navigated through teen and young adulthood, but the older I grew, the more the history and its impact on modern society have become an integral part of my life.I hope that my deep passion for my characters, their stories, and the true history surrounding them can be received in a positive way that leaves my audience wanting to learn more.
